Position Summary 

Field Supervisor is responsible for providing leadership and direction to assigned staff who perform a variety of tasks related to water utility operation and maintenance including emergency response, utility locates, meter reading, customer relations and billing, and system maintenance. Consequences of decisions may have a direct impact on public health. 

Supervisory Duties  

This position has formal supervisory responsibilities over other employees. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:   

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate daily work and projects. Provide detailed instruction and training in job duties and requirements including the use of various tools and equipment, SOPs, computers, and software applications. 
  • Perform field verification and inspection of operating and maintenance work, and ensure the appropriate job methods, tools, and equipment are applied. 
  • Utilize on the job technology including mobile computers and/or tablets, electronic timekeeping systems, computerized maintenance management systems, associated mobile applications, RDA, Project Tracker, electronic cut slips, or other provided devices. 
  •  Maintain records of work completed. As appropriate, research work history, compile data and generate basic reports as directed. 
  • Investigate and resolve customer-facing issues and use various communication tools to inform managers and staff. 
  •  Monitor, coach, train, and evaluate field employees.  Facilitate meetings and deliver key messages to group. Develop and monitor training programs and materials, maintain and develop standard operating procedures for new processes and change of procedures, and track employee performance and deliver performance reviews. Implement performance tracking methodologies at the work unit and individual level. 
  • Ensure compliance with Denver Water’s Safety program. Train and ensure assigned staff are compliant with a variety of safety issues including confined space entry procedures, hot work permits, lead paint, and asbestos regulations, excavation trenching, shoring, and other compliance methods used. 
  • Ensure SOPs are followed and updated as they relate to Engineering Standards, Operating Rules and defined best practices. 
  • May be required to perform on-call duty, work shifts, weekends, holidays, and overtime as directed, and work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions. 
  • Must be able to perform safety sensitive functions. 
  • Perform inspections, operate, and perform minor maintenance on equipment or assets in the distribution system or at distribution system facilities. 
  • May supervise and/or perform semi-skilled work such as utility locates or preventative maintenance work on hydrants, valves, and other distribution system features. 
  • May supervise and/or perform semi-skilled work such as distribution system flushing. 
  • May supervise and/or perform technical, skilled work such as tapping and PRV replacements. 
  •  Assist in the development of standard operating procedures, emergency operations manuals, and facility inspection programs. 
  • Perform safety inspections of assigned facilities to ensure construction and job site are following safety hazards. 
  • Must be able to perform safety-sensitive functions. 
  • Perform related work as required.

$34.78 - $50.78 hourly

Position Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma or GED. 
  • Minimum 5 years of related work experience. 
  • Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities for the position.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications : 

  • Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record. 
  • Must possess a valid Class ‘B’ Colorado Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of appointment. (WD Tapping & PRV)
