This position is being offered at both the permanent level and Limited Term level. Candidates will be considered for both levels. The Limited Term position has an expected end date of 1/2028. 

Position Summary

Under general supervision performs customer service duties at customer premises including minor meter services, repair and maintenance of meter pits. Assist customers with questions regarding usage or any general concerns. Help ensure the accuracy and functionality of water meters and electronic devices.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform meter repairs including leaks at meter connections. Replace meter box covers and stop box lids. Replace meter registers and remove and replace water meters.

• Read and/or reread water meters located in areas such as easements, offices, vaults, and meter boxes. Calculate and record current consumptions for reading accuracy relating to customer complaints and obtain final readings for property transfers.

• Maintain records of daily work including meter readings and customer contacts. Prepare and execute service or repair orders and document problems for later resolution.

• Install, program, repair, troubleshoot, and maintain automatic meter reading devices. Operate handheld computers, device programmers, and radio reading equipment.

• Assist plumbers, contractors, and customers in locating water services, leaks, stop boxes, and meter pits.

• Contact delinquent account customers for collection, turn water services off and on at curb stops and meter valves in pits. Maintain necessary records of service work.

• Investigate excessive water usage and reports of leaks. Inspect for unauthorized water usage or consumption variations. Performs inspections to determine basis for billing, inspect completed meter settings to assure compliance, and assist customers to comply with conservation practices and regulations.

• Locate and mark underground service lines to avoid contact during excavation by third parties, locate stop boxes, meter pits, and vaults.

• Perform related work as required.

Full Pay Range: $22.38 - $34.46 hourly

 

Position Minimum Requirements

Education and Experience:

• High School Diploma or GED.

• Minimum 1 year of related work experience.

• Any equivalent combination of certifications, education, or experience that provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities for the position.

Licenses, Registration, and Certifications: 

• Must be able to possess and maintain a valid Class ‘R’ Colorado driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record at time of hire.

An offer of employment may be contingent upon satisfactory results of a post-offer drug test and alcohol. Denver Water tests for the following: amphetamines, cocaine, marijuana (THC), opiates, and phencyclidine (PCP). A strength test may also be conducted due to the physical requirements of the position. This strength test may include lifting, pushing, and pulling various amounts of weight as well as crouching, squatting, and lifting one’s own body weight from various positions. If the position is deemed safety-sensitive or requires a CDL, you will be placed on the random drug and alcohol testing list, which means you may be tested if your name is selected while employed at Denver Water.
